For instance, if a user wishes to read an email with a virus in it, the scanner can keep the email when scanning and delete the email once the user goes to view the email.” Most antivirus programs provide settings for how much scanning takes place, how often scans are done and at what depth scans are done. The scanning program, however, wipes all content found when scanning from files, which is not the desired behavior for a tool that is meant to scan emails and other types of files. Schuh noted that though he was testing the scanning function of the program, the software was not being used for malicious purposes.
