But it seems like this version is really slow in editing features (V. 5.2.1). Having to turn off Lightroom (with all of the panels closed) just to change a color on a tool, or to apply a mask, etc is really frustrating.

Additionally, the Windows version is smaller than the Mac version, which I’m not used to. It seems though, that the interface is a bit customizable. I would like to see more features like “Layer”, “Adjustment”, etc in the main menu (not in “developer”?)

Overall I find LR more user-friendly and intuitive than Photoshop (at least, the last version I had used)—but it seems like CS5 is offering everything through a more streamlined front-end with minimal features. It’s easy to shoot and edit and doesn’t require a certain level of experience to do this. That’s not bad.

Reminds me of the “old” experience of using Photoshop. Before it was all about elegance with dialog boxes and everything—it was straightforward and fast, too. But now it seems like they’ve lost what they were so good at. (“Elegance” is a word they feed the masses, but not me)

I would recommend upgrading, but if I had a show business photo shoot and didn’t have a professional photographer, I would try a free photo editor. Because Lightroom is web-enabled, you can use it for markups and projects. You can upload images to the cloud and find them quickly and you also have access to Dropbox in order to upload your photos to your hard drive.

For a sampling of what’s coming, I whipped up a quick test image of a red rose that I had pulling files from different places, I did the same with a rose that had a photo of the original in the background, and a third version with the rose against a dark sky.
